Scary Day
Alyson is still rockin’ the fevers. The Tylenol is barely keeping them down to 100 F now. Three antibiotics & one anti-viral from before with an anti-fungal added today. Her throat hurts so badly that we’re going with a morphine drip via IV in about 10 minutes.
She had to have a CT scan today as well. Her lungs looked good to our resident and her tummy was fine also. She feels like crap – didn’t even move during the CT. Didn’t even open her eyes.
Another new symptom is that she’s got some weird redness up her legs. It’s not due to the vancomycin because it isn’t all over. We’re watching it but it’s not doing anything. Nystatin was ordered for her bum because she now has bleeding from sores down there. The antibiotic-induced diarrhea isn’t helping the situation.
Symptom Summary
- Fever up to 39.5 C today (over 103 F)
- Unexplained fevers
- Unexplained leg coloration
- Throat/mouth sores are worse
- Explosive diarrhea and gas
Diagnosis Summary
- E. coli infection that is responding to the antibiotics
- Clear CT pending radiology review
Current Meds
- Morphine
- Tylenol
- Septra
- Acyclovir
- Ciprofloxacin
- Vancomycin
- Fluconazole
- Ceftazidime
- Simethicone
- and chemo on Monday
I’m waffling between confidence that she’ll be fine and shear terror that she won’t. I hope tomorrow brings better news and some relief for Alyson.

(((((((Many hugs, Julie)))))))))
We’ll say extra prayes for her to get over the fever, the redness and the pain.
